Lava Flow Trek

While in Hawai'i this year, my family and I went on a trek to see the lava flow.  Since the lava is flowing on private lands, we found one of the land owners giving hiking tours out to the flow.  It was amazing and hot, hot, hot.  The lava is slow moving and it is also amazing how much ground it covers in a short time.  Our trip was with Kalapana Lava Trek.
Since our trip the Pu'u O'o vent has collapsed and there is no new lava flowing in Kalapana.  If you are heading to Hawai'i, check the Volcano National Park's website for the latest information on where the lava is flowing.
I can cross this one off of the bucket list!

Christmas Scraps

I found some Christmas striped fabric in the bottom of a drawer I was cleaning out.  I like playing with stripes and these pieces were left over from one of the many UFO's I have.  Trimmed them up a little bit, and added side borders of green fabric with pine needles.  I had a strip of wild animal fabric left over from a quilt backing and ended up with 4 placemats. Finished size approx. 11" x 20".
